Scooter-riding woman cited for trespassing in Shorewood

Feb. 21, 2012 | 15 comments

A 69-year-old Shorewood woman was mailed a citation for trespassing after riding a motorized scooter in the 3800 block of North Bartlett Avenue at 5:40 p.m. Feb. 18.

According to the Shorewood police report:

A resident saw the woman riding the scooter in the alley behind the home.

The woman stopped, entered the yard, took two flower pots and rode off with them. Police were called and the woman was stopped and the pots returned.

She denied taking the pots saying, “I’m sorry. I’m Russian.”

  4. So she stole personal property, was seen doing so, was caught with the stolen goods and then lied to the police.
And all she got was a citation for trespassing!!!
Was this because she was a women of 69 and on a scooter?
So what if it was a male, 20 and using a car?
Come on Shorewood, what does this say to all the other elderly thefts that will occur?
Ya, one can show some mercy but this looks like plain un-warrantied mercy.
So look out all you Shorewood residents, your yard property is up for grabs.
  5. Im gonna use that line...By the way,,,if ur russian in the kitchen..what are you in the bathroom?

    European
  6. What a dopey story. She should have been arrested. Cops afraid of the Russian gangs in the North Shore? Is this what she used to do in Leningrad?

    • That was an ignorant comment made by an ignorant individual. It's people like you that enjoy making stereotypical comments in order to raise controversy. Would you say something in that sense or tone if a Russian or a Russian-American individual was standing next to you. I put a million bucks on the fact you would be shaking in your boots trying to announciate your sentence. I have lived on the eastside since my college days and can tell you I have had a lot of friends, who were American, that when stopped by milwaukee police pretended to not speak english when questioned,... as a joke. Milwaukee Police has better things to do then to book a 69 year old woman for taking two flower pots from the back of an alley. If you live in milwaukee you should know, in the back of an alley, or in-between houses is where people in Milwaukee leave things to be dumped or taken, so this person probably thought it was there to be tossed, since the report didn't state whether there were flowers actually planted in the pots. Once again, my only purpose in this statement is to show your ignorance, why you registered to make comments is beyond me, because you are obviously a moron. Please crawl back into your hole, and set the time capsule to 2012.
    • The article says she went INTO the yard and took the flower pots. It doesn't say she took the pots from the alley, or the gangway between the houses. She went into someone elses yard to take (steal) something that didn't belong to her. As it is winter here the chances of the flower pot containing flowers is pretty slim, still doesn't give the old bat the right to trespass and steal.
You're obviously the "moron" commenting here.
    • first of all it says entered, which could mean anything. Second of all if you think the comment made by the person above is legit and has basis for making such a bogus comment, then it just shows how you were raised. Hopefully you dont have any kids so you don't teach them to make such stupid remarks, because one of those russian gangsters would probably show them the right approach to a situation, for speaking with such disrespect towards someones culture. They say ignorance is bliss but if you choose to respond that way towards a group then I am afraid of what the future holds for you.
  7. Why is this even in the paper? What difference what nationality she is? Slamming race & nationality & etc by an individualy shows low self esteem and I'm not even a doctor.

  8. This is news worthy?
  9. "ellen ripley" mustve been the one to write this article, this was a pathetic news story. Shame on whoever allowed this to be printed or be put on the web, this was as dumb of a decision such as the one made by the actual writer of this article. Explain to me how two flower pots being seized from a 69 year old elderly woman has any affect of the community. Ten bucks says this was done to be seen as a humorous article, everyone knows that shorewood has a high % of russian speaking individuals. All this does is just shows the ignorance of the our media today, posting stories that have nothing to do with any kind of importance. If she held up the house at gun point and took the flower pots, ok post that, but you don't even know if the woman was suffering from any kind of disease, or mental instability.
